도시와 커뮤니티 연구소 경신원 대표의 저서 『소멸하지 않는 도시』가 2026년 세종도서 교양부문 사회과학 분야에 선정되었습니다.
세종도서는 문화체육관광부가 주최하고 한국출판문화산업진흥원이 주관하는 출판 지원 사업으로, 매년 우수 도서를 선정하여 전국 공공도서관과 전문도서관 등에 보급하고 있습니다. 올해 교양부문에는 총 4,650종이 접수되었으며, 두 차례의 심사를 거쳐 최종 429종이 선정되었습니다.
『소멸하지 않는 도시』는 인구 감소와 지역 쇠퇴, 도시 재생과 지속가능한 미래에 관한 질문을 구체적인 사례를 통해 탐구한 책입니다. 특히 도시와 지역의 변화 과정을 현장성과 실제 사례를 바탕으로 살펴보며, 오늘날 우리가 직면한 사회적·공간적 과제를 보다 깊이 이해할 수 있도록 돕는 점에서 의미를 지닙니다.
이번 선정으로 『소멸하지 않는 도시』는 전국의 더 많은 독자들과 만날 수 있게 되었으며, 공공도서관과 전문도서관을 통해 폭넓게 보급될 예정입니다.
도시와 커뮤니티 연구소는 이번 선정을 뜻깊게 생각하며, 앞으로도 도시와 지역, 공동체의 미래를 성찰하는 연구와 저술 활동을 지속해 나갈 예정입니다.
The City That Does Not Disappear, written by Dr. Shinwon Kyung, Director of the Urban & Community Research Center, has been selected for the 2026 Sejong Books Program in the General-Interest Category, Social Sciences Division.
The Sejong Books Program is a national publishing initiative organized by Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and administered by the Korea Publication Industry Promotion Agency. Each year, outstanding books are selected and distributed to public and specialist libraries across Korea. In 2026, a total of 4,650 titles were submitted to the General-Interest Category, and 429 titles were ultimately selected after two rounds of review.
The City That Does Not Disappear explores population decline, regional challenges, urban regeneration, and sustainable futures through concrete cases. Drawing on field-based observations and real-world examples, the book examines the processes of urban and regional transformation and seeks to deepen understanding of the social and spatial challenges facing communities today.
Through this selection, the book will have the opportunity to reach a wider readership through public and specialist libraries across Korea.
The Urban & Community Research Center welcomes this recognition and will continue its research and writing on the future of cities, regions, and communities.
